Researching the tools of our time

What it costs

Receipts. Hardware, seed, water, power, and the parts I buy twice because I got the first one wrong.

What it yields

Weighed at harvest instead of estimated. Pounds of food, and how much of it was good enough to hand to a neighbor.

What breaks

Robots jam. Beds flood. Software eats a week of watering. The failures stay in the record.

Filmed as it goes, written up every week, for a year. If the numbers come out ugly, the ugly numbers go up.

Why am I building this?

Why am I renting survival when the robots can grow my food and build my house?

I couldn't put that question down. That's why I founded Johnny Autoseed, to answer it in a field.

The machines that plant, tend and harvest at the scale of one household already exist, and they keep getting cheaper. I saw people targeting large scale AgTech and small student robotics, but regular everyday people were left out.
